MyBo

Barrack Obama's campaign's usage of social media and the likes of social networking.

I think that the campaign manager knew that the concept of social media networking was on the rise and that it can be incorporated into the campaign. In my opinion had the manager not used social media as a crucial part of the whole campaign, maybe we'll be saying Ms. President rather than Mr. President. Or had the social media not grown or blown up like it has, there is no telling what would have happened to Mr. President. As technology advances, people can not always stand by the old/traditional ways to doing things. The usage of SMS, aka text messages, was the perfect touch to promote the campaign as cell phones were becoming more and more popular, especially the text message feature. I remember when smartphones weren't invented yet, but more and more people got into text messaging each other. What a great way to get someone's attention and get to the point directly in a short amount of time.
People say that the best advertisement is the word of mouth. By getting more people talking about the campaign, it was bound to get more votes and more donations.
The campaign manager used the best old trick in the books and just incorporated the advancing technology.
